The Herald is the only national daily paper. It is under the Zimpapers Group, where the government has majority shareholdings. Other newspapers in the Group are Bulawayo based daily the Chronicle. Broadcast Media
ZimbabweTV
Widely referred to ZTV, it is the country’s only broadcaster and owned by the government. It has then typically been churning out the ruling party propaganda, a practice also common in its radio stations (profiled below).
ZBC Radio Stations
Spot FM
Formerly known as Radio One. It currently features music, current affairs of a social nature, after a very brief period as a Sports Radio station. Broadcasts 24 hours.
Radio Zimbabwe
Formerly known as Radio 2. It’s a 24 hour radio station is entertainment orientated, with a heavy emphasis on playing local Zimbabwean music such as sungura and museve. It has hourly news broadcasts and some news and current affairs programs.
Power FM
Formerly known as Radio 3. Although it was forced into paying local music mostly for the young such as urban group, there has been a re-emergence of American music which dominated the station prior to 2003. It’s mainly entertainment but has hourly news bulletins.
National FM
Formerly known as Radio 4, this station is unique in that it broadcasts in minority languages such as Tonga, Venda, Sotho, Kalanga etc. It focuses mainly in educational programs.

ZACRO is a non-profit organisation that seeks to lobby and advocate to empower communities in Zimbabwe through building and sustaining strong, vibrant, autonomous and community driven radio stations.

Al-Jazeera
Controversial because of its flighting of terrorist tapes, Al-Jazeera is a Middle East perspective of news. It launched its first global English language news channel in November 2006 Broadcasts worldwide. It set up a bureau in Zimbabwe in 2006, despite the current ban on foriegn news organisations.
