Veteran Journa Gibbs Dube Scoops OSCARS

Dube, who has been involved in the project for the past three years with independent producers Elinor Burkett and Ross Williams, was ecstatic about the award and said it was a moment to ‘cherish.’
“This is a moment to cherish for the people of Zimbabwe and the whole world,” said Dube in an interview with MIZ.
The movie, which is about a disabled girl whose mother makes a decision not to abandon her against all odds, was done at the height of the 2008 political violence that engulfed Zimbabwe.
“We worked with so many people in governement who were protecting us and therefore we also dedicate that award to them, the disabled people in the word,l this is an indication that you can rise and shine, said Dube.
Dube has been in journalism for the past 22 years, starting out as a junior reporter with the Chronicle. He has also worked for the Zimbabwe Mirror, the Standard and the now banned Weekly Times.
Dube who is now based in the United States, is the first Zimbabwean journalist to win an award of international acclaim, yet alone Hollywood.
